Artists Sonja Thomsen and Adam Carr shall provide a visual art residency for 2nd & 3rd grade students at Allen Field School located at 730 W. Lapham Blvd. Milwaukee, WI. March 5- April 18, 2013.
This winter and spring, we are excited to collaborate with Arts@Large, as artists-in-residence at Allen-Field Elementary (located one block off Mitchell, at 730 W. Lapham Blvd.). We will be working with the 3rd graders in Room 224 and 2nd graders in Room 133, along with Mr. Diaz and Ms. Lopez. In support of their school-based museum exhibition, Immigration Through the Eyes of a Child, we will be teaching the students interview, photography, and object-study skills.
There is a deep resonance between this project and Listening to Mitchell — we’re viewing our connection with Allen-Field as a perfect first step into the community surrounding Mitchell Street.
Arts@Large is a non-profit organization that connects arts to academics through meaningful arts experiences for Milwaukee Public School (MPS) students. Arts@Large was created in 2001 as an MPS district program with funds from the U. S. Department of Education. To maximize resources for MPS students, Arts@Large became a nonprofit in 2005, engaging the funding community as partners in arts education for K-12 students.
