On a sunny Sunday morning, Alderman José Pérez and his family welcomed us into his home to talk about his days coming up on Mitchell. Long before he was alderman, José was his grandfather’s sidekick when he ran errands on the street (if he behaved, his reward was a bag of Taco-flavored Doritos). Later, he was part of the scene that came up around the Cutteria, breakdancing with the Planet Rock crew (amongst many others). Today, he is a leader in the street’s dialogue, celebrating what’s there and pushing for what might come next.
